Thanks - I was wondering if that might be the case.

Cheers,
Evan

Hello my Friend has an issue regarding downloading Weather file. It always saysNSRDB Download Mon Sep 23 10:22:39 2024========================================================== Requested location(s): [ vancouver, canada ] Location 1 of 1: "vancouver, canada"
"vancouver, canada" appears to be a city/state pair. Geocoding failed: Could not connect to service or failed to recognize "vancouver, canada"

I tried multiple version of the software, i tried desactivating the antivirus, the firewall. It works on multiple other computer with way stronger security. It can download the weather file when given the exact latitude and longitude, but not while using the name of the city, no matter the format we try.

Is there pre-requisite that would be missing, would there be a software being in conflict with the geocoding.

Thank you in advance for your answer

Hello,

You should be able to use the location name "vancouver, canada" to download weather files in SAM 2023.12.17 r2. Some older versions of SAM have problems with geocoding location names that are a pair of words separated by a comma, but this should be working in the current version. For locations in the U.S. and Canada, it may be best to use a location name like "Vancouver, BC" or "Portland, OR" because some there may be more than one city or town with the same name in a given country, such as Portland, ME and Portland, OR in the U.S.

In the download log text file you attached, I see location names that are numbers like "12309". These may be zip or postal codes, but the geocoding service may not always correctly intepret these ambiguous names. I would recommend using a more specific address, or a latitude/longitude pair instead of postal codes.

Best regards,
Paul.

Hello,

Sorry i uploaded the wrong file in my last post. It says : NSRDB Download Mon Sep 23 10:22:39 2024
==========================================================

Requested location(s): [ vancouver, canada ]

Location 1 of 1: "vancouver, canada"

"vancouver, canada" appears to be a city/state pair.

Geocoding failed: Could not connect to service or failed to recognize "vancouver, canada"

My friend has a Asus laptop from taiwan in traditionnal chinese, could it have an impact with the download? All her colleague from her class have Macbook and it works for all of them. I know windows computer works because i tested it on my personal computer and even my Job laptop which has a VPN and very strong antivirus and firewall it still works. From what i understand the geocoding works because of google maps api? Could it be the fact that she a Taiwanese laptop? Could another software block geocoding from happening?

And last question, could a virtual machine with windows 10 or 11 make it works?

Im trying hard to help her as IT technician but i cant seems to understand the problem and where to find the log file

Thank you

Hello,

The type of computer should not make a difference with the weather file downloads. I would also expect the downloads to work on a virtual machine as long as it has has access to the internet.

SAM uses the MapQuest geocoding API, not a Google service.

Please double-check that your friend is using the latest version of SAM -- it should be SAM 2023.12.17 Revision 2. You can find the version number by clicking the About button at the bottom left of the Welcome page when you first start SAM, or by clicking About at the top right of the Help window after clicking the Help button.

Best regards,
Paul.
