Hi Bernardo,

This is related to the problem with modeling very small CSP systems in SAM that we have been discussing. In this case, the model algorithms are not able to converge for smaller sizes of TES.

Best regards,
Paul.

Hi Paul.
Ok, definitely, I won't be able to do some parametric analysis.

On the Power Cycle page, the default value of "Fraction of thermal power needed for startup" is 0.2, but on Help page it says:

Fraction of thermal power needed for startup
The fraction of the turbine's design thermal input required by the system during startup. This thermal energy is not converted to electric power. Default is 0.75.

Which value is correct?

Best regards,
Bernardo.

Hi Bernardo,

The default value in SAM 2021.12.02 r2 for the Physical Trough model configuration Fraction of thermal power needed for startup input is 0.2. The value mentioned in Help is out of date.

Best regards,
Paul.

Hi Paul.

I'm sorry for bothering you again...

Why when I reduce the number of storage hours, the solar field mass flow rate reduce to [also]?

Supposedly, if I reduce the number of storage hours, the TES would be full more often, but it doesn't happen because solar field mass flow rate reduces and there is less mass flow that goes to the hot tank.

I revised [read about] how SAM calculates the mass flow rate in the technical manual but it doesn't explain it.

Please see attached my program.

Best regards,
Bernardo.

Hi Paul.
The assumption that I made on de UDPC results in errors. I adapt do mass flow to the real mass flow that I have in ORC, the design value is not 1.
It gaves an error, so I needed to make other assumption.

Thanks.
