Hi Francisco,

SAM records the curtailed energy. If you specify a curtailment compensation rate in $/kWh on the Revenue page (under "Curtailment Payments"), then SAM treats this curtailed energy as a source of revenue for the cash flow model.

You can see the amount of curtailed energy on an annual basis using the "curtailed energy" output variable. You can also compare the "system power before grid curtailment" and "system power generated" time series variables to see the hourly or subhourly curtailment.

Please note that the curtailment variables are reported using kW/kWh in some places and MW/MWh in others, so pay attention to the units.

Best regards,
Paul.

Dear Paul,

I was reviewing this example that Francisco attached. But a question arose. How could it be explained that at certain times the generation is negative? (reference image attached). According to the dispatch strategy that Francisco wrote, that hour is where the turbine works at low power. When the turbine works at minimum power, there is a negative production. Could it be that there the parasitic consumptions are greater than the generation? Could that be the explanation? In that case, perhaps it would be to ensure a minimum fraction that at least covers parasitic consumption.

I would appreciate your opinion on this, please.

Kind regards,

Maria

Hi Maria,

Time steps (in this case hours) with negative generation are time steps when the plant parasitic loads are greater than the power generated by the system.

Best regards,
Paul.
