Evaporative condensor of Molten Salt Solar power tower was created by Mohammed Alfailakawi
Dear Madam/sir,

I am using SAM (version 2018.11.11) to simulate a 50MWe MS SPT in Pakistan (Quetta, weather file from NSRDB).

My simulation with air cooled condenser (at a Rankine cycle PB) is just fine (attached). The problem is when I switch to an evaporative condenser, SAM gives negative outputs.

I followed all the instructions of help menu for the (power cycle, Rankine cycle):
- Steam cycle blowdown fraction: 0.013
- Minimum condenser pressure: 1.25 inches of mercury

I also checked out ''Technical Manual for the SAM Physical Trough Model'' but did not find much help concerning this point.
I tried with older SAM version (2012) and it worked without any problems.

Can you please help with this?

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Mohammed

Dear Mohammad,

This is caused by an issue with the controller algorithm that has been fixed for the next version of SAM, which we plan to release in the next few days. You can either wait until then to download it, or try the latest Beta version -- in my tests with the Beta version, the dry cooling simulation gave reasonable results.

You can find the Beta version on the Download page:

Best regards,
Paul.
