Speeding Up CSP Solar Tower Simulations Using Representative Days with PySAM was created by Yahya Baba
Hi everyone,I'm new to using the PySAM wrapper and currently working on designing a CSP solar tower. However, the simulation is quite time-consuming since it runs across all 8,760 hourly points in a year. This makes optimization nearly impossible due to the heavy computational load.I'm wondering if there's a way to use a reduced set of representative days (e.g., a few key days that reflect the whole year's weather variability). Ideally, I’d like to create a weather dataset with maybe 20 days or even fewer, while still getting meaningful simulation results.Has anyone here tried this approach or have any advice on how to implement it in PySAM?Thanks in advance!

Hi Yahya Baba,
The CSP models, including the power tower models, run a simulation for a complete year. It is not possible to run the models for a shorter period or for a set of representative time periods.
Best regards,
Paul.
