Documentation / papers for SolarPILOT was created by solarjoe
Hello,

I am delighted to hear about the new model "SolarPILOT" to simulate solar power towers in the new SAM release.
And I am very interested in how the model works (estimation of shading and blocking, raytracing/cone/mixture, field layout optimization).
Are there publications or a documentation? And is SolarPILOT also available as a standalone component or only integrated in SAM?

Kind regards,
Joe

Dear Joe,

We're working on documentation for SolarPILOT and its implementation in SAM. That should be available early next year.

Best regards,
Paul.

Hello Paul,

any news on the documentation or papers on SolarPilot?

We are e.g. studying non-blocking heliostat field layouts and
are not sure if SolarPilot's evaluation algorithm will recognize
such small variances in the heliostat field.

We are very interested in SolarPilot, e.g. which algorithm is used
for shading / blocking and field evaluation, how often
is the field evaluated to estimate the annual performance, etc.

Looking forward to this.
Kind regards,
Joe

No, it is not yet ready. We will post it on the Performance Model Documentation page when it is.
Best regards,

Paul.
