Can minute time steps be used for PV Simulation?

Dear SAM Team,

we have used SAM to model PV electricity production with hourly time steps – our research question now makes it necessary to increase the time resolution to 1 minute (we have 1 minute insolation data). Are there arguments that speak against using minute data as input to SAM as if it were hourly data and run SAM 60 times (instead of once)?

The simulation of minute PV production doesn’t have to be super precise - the question that we want to answer with the help of minute data is: which share of the PV-electricity is consumed directly by a household with a 5 kWpeak PV module on the roof and how much is fed into the grid (on a yearly basis). We model the electric load (sum of the loads of fridge, dishwasher, TV etc.) with minute resolution and using hourly average PV production would result in overestimating the share of PV-electricity that is directly consumed.

We would greatly appreciate your answer!

Thanks a lot!
