Mac OSX 10.9.2: SAM cannot create "temporary workspace" was created by cmsorens
Hi,
I have tried for a couple hours to get SAM to function on my Mac after recently installing the latest version (Ver. 2014.1.14 (SIL 3.0.1, SSC 34) Rev 1).
As my uploaded screen shots suggest, my first error says, "ERROR The SAM temporary workspace folder could not be created!"
The second error says, "ERROR Could not open log file for write: ...."
The third errors says, "SAMEXE Error .... Directory '/Users/chadsorenson/ .SAMEXE' couldn't be created (error 13: Permission denied)
Is there something I need to do to allow this application to have permission to create a temporary workspace within the user folder?
If there is any insight into this problem I'm having, I'd be grateful for your thoughts. Thank you.
Chad Sorenson

Hi again,
Of course, right after I post my issue ... I solve the problem! If anyone else has this issue, here is what I discovered.
The problem is in the user permissions. I am the only person that uses my computer and the "admistrator" of the machine; however, I was logged in as a user with insufficient privileges to "Read & Write" files ... apparently I could only "Read only" ... not sure why this is as I write files hourly.
I went to Finder and right clicked on my user name "chadsorenson" found under Favorites in the upper left hand corner of Finder window. This allowed a "Get Info" on the user (me). I think clicked on the bottom right hand corner of the Get Info dialogue box to permit me to change my own privileges, and modified the "Staff" line to "Read & Write" from just "Read Only."
I don't know if this next step was necessary, but I logged out of my account and logged back in (not a full restart). The next time I tried SAM, it worked without any problems whatsoever.

Hi Chad,
Thank you for posting this information. It's good to know you were able to get SAM running on your Mac.
Paul.
