Hi,

I have an old script that referenced a file but is now getting the error:
failed to download file: mercator.nrel.gov/perez_tdy/20/radwx_0105105_9805.tm2.gz
failed to get weather data for: 300 West Second Street Little Rock Ar 72000

Is there a new place to get this data?

I have attached the .sul file and the .csv file for reference.

Mary

Dear Mary,
It is no longer possible to use SamUL or another automated process to access the solar resource data that is accessible via the NREL Solar Prospector website. That is because of changes in the terms of the agreement between NREL and Clean Power Research  that governs the use of the data and prevents us from being able to include the functions in SamUL that download the data.
It is still possible to download the data directly from the Solar Prospector website . After you download files from the website, you can use SamUL to read the files that are stored on your computer.
Best regards,

Paul.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for the suggestion. There was another response you had posted that I no longer see since you updated it today. You had referenced the weather files that come with SAM. How would I be able to "point" to these files in the Samul script. I have a batch of addresses or lat, long coordinates that I would like to run using the weather files.

Thank you,
Mary

Hi Mary,
To cycle through a collection of weather files in SamUL, first put the file collection in a single folder, and then you can use the technique described in the SAM Help system to read the files (scroll down to the "Batching Weather Files" section):
SAM Help - SamUL: Interfacing with SAM Analysis
The weather files that come with SAM are stored in the SAM installation folder, which by default in Windows is C:\SAM\2014.1.14\weather.
Best regards,
Paul.

Hi,

I tried the script you suggested but it did not give the results I am looking for. I would like to input a list of sites with lat, long, system capacity, tilt, azimuth, and derate as inputs. I would like the script to be able to pick the nearest weather file based on the location given in the input file. The output would include enet for each site having run the simulation using the nearest weather data.
Do you have any suggestions on how to do this? If not I will just have to sort the sites according to geographic region and run several batches.

The script you gave me would just run the base case using each weather file and output simulation results in output files for each weather file.

Thank you,
Mary

Hi Mary,

It is not possible to use SamUL to locate a weather file given a latitude and longitude unless you have a collection of weather files that you have indexed so that the script can identify them. If the number of sites you have is not too large, you could download a weather file for each site by hand, put them in a folder, and then run the script to calculate the enet value given the different set of inputs for each site.

The sample script I mentioned only shows how you might cycle through a set of weather files in a folder. You are correct, as written it just runs the base case -- you would have to add code to set the value of any other inputs you want to change.

Best regards,
Paul.
