SAM does not appear to have any sample files that can calculate the use of cogenerated power from either gas-powered reciprocating engines or gas turbines, both of which are used in commercial applications quite often. Will the new SAM program being released in Fall 2014 provide modeling for these types of technology, in addition to solar, wind and geothermal?

Hello,

SAM does not model combined-heat-and-power applications. Unfortunately, we do not have plans to include CHP in the Fall 2014 version of SAM.

Do you know of anyone working on CHP for SAM now that it's open source? In my region, many solar developers are CHP developers. Both benefit from storage, so I was looking to use SAM to model both CHP and solar with batteries.

We have not heard from anyone developing a CHP model for SAM. You can check the issues list and pull requests on the GitHub repositories to see what people are working on.
