When you simulate a solar water heating system, SAM reports a metric called "Annual Energy Saved" in the Metrics table. This value represents the electrical energy saved by the solar water heating system over the year. SAM assumes that the SWH system displaces energy that would otherwise by supplied by electricity from the grid.
To see the amount of thermal energy delivered by the solar collectors, after running simulations, click Data Tables on the results page, expand the Single Values list, and click "Annual Q Collector to Tank (kWh)."
