Error in simulation was created by Indrajit D. Pharne
Dear sir,
I hope you finds you well!
I am Indrajit PhD Scholar. I have designed a solar cell and its module of 60 cells. I am trying to simulate this module in SAM but it couldn't run. My module parameters are
Voc=64.2 V
Isc=3.82
FF= 44.03
PCE= 7.39
Vmpp=42
Impp=2.56

With these parameters SAM gives an error i.e.
'exec fail(pvsamv1): CEC 6 parameter model:  Could not solve for normalized coefficients.  Please check your inputs.
Simulation pvsamv1 failed :exec fail(pvsamv1): CEC 6 parameter model:  Could not solve for normalized coefficients.  Please check your inputs.
gen not assigned
Simulation grid failed :gen not assigned'
Kindly look into this matter and help me in this regards

Thank You!

Hi Indrajit,

Please attach a copy of the .sam file with the parameters you entered for your PV module if you would like me to help troubleshoot. The "CEC Performance Model with User Entered Specifications" option in SAM requires the following parameters:

Cell type (monocrystalline, polycrystalline, CdTe, CIS, CIGS, amorphous)
Vmp, VDC
Imp, A
Voc, VDC
Isc, A
Temp coeff of Voc, V/°C
Temp coeff of Isc, A/°C
Temp coeff of Pmp, %/°C
Number of cells in series
NOCT, °C
Module area, m
Module aspect ratio (module length /  module width)

Best regards,
Paul.

Hi Indrajit,

Thank you for attaching the file.

I was able to get the module model coefficient calculator to work by changing the cell type to CdTe. Note that the cell type is only used by the coefficient calculator's algorithm to set a starting guess value for the mathematical solver. The cell type does not affect the simulation, so it does not need to match the actual cell type.

In the attached version of your .sam file, I added a case named "modified system design" to size the system for 12.6 kWac of inverter capacity and a DC/AC ratio of 1.2 that avoids excessive inverter losses. You can compare the System Design page in your original case (named "untitled") to the one I created.

Best regards,
Paul.

Attached is the file. Sorry about that.

Also, I did my testing using the current version of SAM, which is 2025.4.16. It looks like you are using an older version. I would recommend downloading and installing the latest version.

Best regards,
Paul.
