Missing data in trough simulation was created by joey.hu
Dear Paul,

Recently i'm using SAM 2025.4.16 to simulate trough power plant with molten salt as HTF, i found a strange thing that when DNI is still high, "field fraction of focused SCAs " is 1, the "field thermal power incident " is 0, i attached screen shot and simulation files for your reference, can you please check it?

kind regards
Joey

Dear Joey,

I recommend making the following changes to your file:
  • On the Solar Field page, change the Startup and Shutdown temperatures to 450 C
  • On the Thermal Storage page, change 'Cold tank heater temperature set point' to a realistic value.
Please try these changes and see if they resolve the timeseries issues you reported.

One known limitation of the trough model for a molten salt HTF is that it assumes electricity is used to provide freeze protection to the HTF instead of circulating fluid from the cold TES tank. We currently do not have a project dedicated to adding this capability.

Thanks,

Ty
