Dispatch battery based on historical/predicted LMP settlement point data?

I am working on a utility scale solar + storage plant based in Texas. I have downloaded hourly LMP by settlement point data near the location of my plant. Is there a way to dispatch my battery system based on historical electricity prices? I'm imagining some combination of prediction, like what is possible with the "perfect look ahead" option based on weather data.

I am somewhat familiar with loading lifetime data for energy market revenue, and I'm hoping there is a similar functionality for solar + storage merchant plants.

Hi Will,

You can use the PV-Battery / Single Owner or the PV-Battery / Merchant Plant configurations to do this. The "automated dispatch" option on the Battery Dispatch page will cause the battery to dispatch in response to the power price inputs that you enter on the Revenue page. For the Single Owner model, you enter a PPA price and a set of time series time-of-delivery (TOD) multipliers to model prices that vary hourly or subhourly. For the Merchant Plant, you enter the price data in $/MWh.

Note that the automated battery dispatch option also takes into consideration the cost of electricity to charge the battery from the Electricity Purchases page, and a calculated cycle degradation penalty designed to mimize battery replacement costs.

Paul, is there a way to put restrictions on when the battery purchases/charges from the grid? I'm imagining a setting where you can input a price at which the battery will purchase/charge from the grid? Thanks, Will

Paul, can the automatic dispatch be adjusted to only purchase electricity from the grid below a specified price? I have both "battery can charge from grid" and "...from system" selected, but would like to set a price point at which it's profitable to purchase. Thanks, Will

No, it is not possible to set a price threshhold for the automated battery dispatch option.

You could explore the simulation results to see how the battery dispatch responds to the price and then iteratively adjust the battery size or other input parameters to achieve the desired dispatch behavior.
