Hello,

Please help me understand the following error message:

fail(subarray2_nstrings, min=1): 0
Simulation pvsamv1 failed :fail(subarray2_nstrings, min=1): 0
gen not assigned
Simulation grid failed :gen not assigned
SSC requires input ‘gen’, but was not found in the SAM UI or from previous simulations
Simulation utilityrate5 failed :precheck input: variable ‘gen’ (System power generated) required but not assigned
SSC requires input ‘utility_bill_w_sys’, but was not found in the SAM UI or from previous simulations
Simulation cashloan failed :precheck input: variable ‘utility_bill_w_sys’ (Electricity bill for system) required but not assigned

I can't figure out what I am missing in my data in order to simulate the project.

Thank you!

Hi Denim,

Please try the following (based on the "untitled (1)" case in .sam file you emailed to the SAM Support mailbox). This is a file that was created with an older version of SAM, and you will need to make a few changes for it to work in SAM 2023.12.17 r2:
  1. When you open the file, click OK for the error messages that appear about the Jinko Solar module, and then click Close to close the version upgrade report window. You can fix this after the file opens.
  2. When the file opens, go to the Module page (under "PV" in the navigation menu), and choose a different module. The Jinko Solar JKM290M-72L module has a different name in the current module library. To select it, first select the first item in the library, and then, in the Filter box type "JKM290" to find the module and select it.
  3. On the PV System Design page, Subarrays 2 and 3 are enabled, each with "Strings in parallel in subarray" set to zero. This will cause a simulation error. If your system has three subarrays, change the number of strings in parallel to one for Subarrays 1, 2, and 3.
  4. On the PV System Design page, change the ground coverage ration (GCR) for Subarray 3 from zero to 0.3.
That should be enough to get the simulation to run.

Note that this is a PV-Battery / Residential configuration, but the "Desired bank power" input on the Battery Cell and System page (under "Battery" in the menu) is set to zero, so this effectively modeling a PV-only system.

Beste regards,
Paul.
