binary TM2 file was created by raichlebw
Hello,
I have an international TM2 file (Kano, Nigeria) in binary format. Is there a way to import this into SAM?
Thanks!
Brian

Hi Brian,
SAM can read files in a few different text formats as described in the "Weather File Formats" topic in Help: samrepo.nrelcloud.org/help/weather_format.htm
I know of a legacy NREL NSRDB "TMY2" weather file format that SAM can read, but this is a text format, not a binary format.
If you'd like me to check the weather file to see if it will work with SAM, please attach it.
Best regards,
Paul.

Hi Brian,
Thank you for attaching the file. It is a text file. You can use a text editor to open it and see that the data it contains is not comma-separated. This old format relied on the position of characters in each row of the file to identify data -- computer programs can read it, but it's harder for us humans to parse.
There is something wrong with the format of this file, but it's hard to tell what the problem is. Sometimes the position of characters in the first row is wrong. You can find a description of the format in the TMY2 Users Manual here: www.osti.gov/biblio/87130/ . Table 3-1 describes the header row.
You might see if you can get the data from the original provider in a different format.
Best regards,
Paul.
