        Hello,
The following is the new BC Hydro, TOU in addition to Tier (Step) structure:
Tier 1: $ 0.101/kWh upto 1350 kWh (max usuage) - total of all period
Tier 2: $ 0.1408/kWh (above 1350 kWh)
Period 1: (-ve) $0.05/kWh (for every kWh consumption) [11pm to 7am - this act as incentive]
Period 2: $0/kWh [7am to 4pm, 9pm to 11pm - neither incentive nor penalty]
Period 3: (+ve) $0.05/kWh (for every kWh consumption) [4pm to 9pm - this act as penalty]
Is there any way we can incoprate this rate structure in SAM?
Please guide me. Thank You.
Regards,
Ali

        Hi Ali,
If I understand your description correctly, you should be able to model that rate structure using the following inputs for the rates for energy charges on the Electricity Rate page:

If the rate schedule applies to both weekdays (Monday - Friday) and weekends (Saturday and Sunday), be sure to set up the schedule for both.
Note that for the purpose of electricity bill calculations, SAM assumes that January 1 is a Monday.
Best regards,
Paul.

        Hi Paul,
Perhaps I can add more clarifications here, as this is a tricky structure.
The usual rate is a simple tiered structure: Tier 1 up to 675 kWh rate = $0.10/kWh, above 675 kWh it is $0.15/kWh.
Over this we want to add a modified-TOU: 1) any kWh used between 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM will be additional $0.05 per kWh used and any kWh between 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM will have a deduction of $0.05 per kWh
The trick is that this tier limit of 675 is for total consumption (not per period) consumption over the three periods. We calculate this first and then there is a kind-of TOU superimposed on top of this.
Here is an example:Total consumption = 1000 kWh /month

Here is an example:Total consumption = 1000 kWh /month
- Period 1 (11:00 PAM to 7:00 AM) = 100 kWh
- Period 2 (7:00 AM to 4:00 PM) = 700 kWh
- Period 3 (4:00 PM to 11:00 PM) = 200 kWh
- Tier 1 = $0.10/kWh up to 675 kWh
- Tier 2 = $0.15/kWh anything above 675 kWh
- Period 1: deduct $0.05/kWh for every kWh consumed
- Period - nothing here ...
- Period 3: add $0.05/kWh for every kWh consumed
