Does SAM calculate radiation on the ground? was created by eli
Dear Paul,
Hello,
My thesis is about Agrivoltaic PV (APV), and I need to calculate the radiation on the ground.
Does SAM calculate radiation on the ground?
Thank you

Hi Elaheh,
SAM's photovoltaic model can use albedo data if it is in the weather file, or you can specify a monthly albedo value in the advanced parameters section at the bottom of the Location and Resource input page.
Best regards,
Paul.

Hi dear Paul,
In fact "total irradiance received on the ground" is needed, useful for the crops in agrivoltaic, considering the shading effect of panels, I think albedo is not the main issue here.
Thank you

Hi Elaheh,
You could use the NREL National Solar Radiation Database (NSRDB) for that purpose. It provides solar radiation data for solar energy at the earth's surface: nsrdb.nrel.gov/
Best regards,
Paul.
