Ambient Temperature at Design was created by Mohammed Alfailakawi
I am trying to simulate a SPT model with three different condensers scenarios:
- wet cooled, air cooled and hybrid condensers.

I am aware that I need to choose a wet bulb T for the wet cooled scenario and a dry bulb T for the air cooled scenario, however I am not quite sure how to exactly chose the design T.

I don't have any wet/dry bulb T data in my case, all I got is the TMY that I am using as a weather file. I found in the literature that it is acceptable to use the dry/wet bulb summer averaged T (from March to September) as an ambient T at design. Would this be acceptable? (from my TMY, the averaged wet bulb T is 14C and the dry bulb T is 32C.)

Last, how can I assign a design temperature in the case of a hybrid condenser?

Hi Mohammed,

I'm not sure what temperatures to recommend  you use for your analysis. You might try different temperatures to see how they affect the results.

Best regards,
Paul.

Hi Mohammed,

The power cycle efficiency at design is a function of the ambient temperature at design. If you change the temperature, you also should change the efficiency. One common approach to select a design ambient temperature is to choose a temperature around the 90th percentile of the annual ambient temperature profile. That should result in the cycle achieving its design efficiency and power under most conditions.

Thanks,

Ty

To follow up on Ty's response, you can plot either the "Resource dry bulb temperature" or "Resource wet bulb temperature" on the PDF / CDF tab of the Results page and use the cumulative distribution function (CDF) line to choose a temperature value.

Best regards,
Paul.
