Power Output Calculation in SAM PV Watts and PV detailed was created by anggitaheatubun
Hi,
I have a question about how SAM calculates the power output on PV Watts and PV Detailed.
Are these two modelings use different equations to calculate the PV power output?
I read some paper about PV Watts and PV Detail calculation but get confused about what makes these two different, in term of its equation.
Can you help me with that, please?
Best Regards,
Anggita Heatubun

Hi Anggita Heatubun,
SAM's Detailed PV model has more inputs than the PVWatts model and does more detailed modeling of the photovoltaic system.
For a general description of the two models, see sam.nrel.gov/photovoltaic.html . There is a similar description in the "Photovoltaic Systems" topic in SAM's Help system that includes a table comparing the different models.
For detailed descriptions, see the Photovoltaic Reference Manual for the Detailed PV model and the PVWatts Version 5 Manual listed here: sam.nrel.gov/photovoltaic/pv-sub-page-2.html .
Best regards,
Paul.
