Dispatch battery modes front-of-meter was created by luanab
Dear
I would like to know if there is any document, paper, video that I can better understand the dispatch modes and battery algorithms for the cases front-of-meter (PPA and Merchant plants)?
Do they take into account the selling price of energy? What is the main difference between the front of and behind the meter modes?
Thank you

Hi Luana,
We are planning webinars on those subjects soon, so please check the events page to see when those are scheduled.
In the meantime, you can find videos and publications on battery-related topics here:
sam.nrel.gov/battery-storage/battery-videos
sam.nrel.gov/battery-storage/battery-publications
When you model a battery system with one of the PPA financial model, SAM treats the battery as a front-of-meter application and can dispatch the battery to respond to a PPA price that varies with time with time of delivery (TOD) multipliers.
SAM models the battery as behind-the-meter when you choose either the Residential or Commercial financial model. In this case, the battery is used to reduce a home- or building-owner's monthly electricity bill.
You can find some more descriptions of front-of-meter and behind-the-meter applications in SAM's Help system under "Battery Storage."
Best regards,
Paul.
