Creating a SRW file from a CSV file

Hello,

I have read the description of the SRW file format in SAM's help system, and I have created a CSV file with suitable external data in a spreadsheet program (Excel) that follows this format. However, this is a .csv file and not a .srw file. The Browse function in SAM under the Wind Resource File tab only searches for .srw files saved on my computer, and as such, it does not detect my .csv file and I cannot select this file to import into SAM.  Can you please share how I can create a .srw file from a .csv file with the appropriate file format?

Thank you!!

Hi Cece,

Please try changing the file extension from .csv to .srw.

Best regards,
Paul.

Hi Yahya,

The file attachment you shared appears to be a solar resource data file, which is not suitable for SAM's Wind Power model.

Weather files from NREL's National Solar Radiation Database (NSRDB) contain wind speed data measured close to the ground rather than at wind turbine hub height levels. The typical meteorological year (TMY) files from the NSRDB that use a single year of data to represent a historical period use weighted averages to represent the typical solar resource, not the typical wind resource.

NREL's WIND Toolkit is one source of wind resource data. See this post for more: sam.nrel.gov/forum/forum-general/4171-how-to-download-edit-a-nrel-wind-toolkit.html#13793

Best regards,
Paul.
