Geothermal Plant Annual Production Regenerating After 11 Years was created by kathryne Stockinger
I am modeling a 30MW geothermal power plant with 95% efficiency and 2%/year temperature decline. When I simulate the plant, I am seeing a decline in energy production every year which is expected due to the temperature and efficiency decline. However, after 11 years, I am seeing that the plant regenerates almost to its original annual production. Can anyone expand on why this may be occurring?
Thank you,
Kathryne

Hi Kathryne,
The "Max. temp decline before reservoir replacement" input on the Plant and Equipment input page determines when SAM invests the amount determined by the "Specified Recapitalization Cost" on the System Costs page to improve the geothermal resource and increase the system's annual output.
Best regards,
Paul.
