When you run SAM's installation program in Windows, it installs SAM by default in
C:\SAM\[version number]\ For example, it would install SAM 2020.2.29 in
C:\SAM\2020.2.29\.
On a Mac, you can find the installation folder in a Finder window as follows: Navigate to the SAM app, control-click the app's icon, click
Show Package Contents, and navigate to
Contents. Alternatively, assuming SAM is installed in the Applications folder, you can open a terminal window and go to
My Mac/Applications/SAM.app.
In Linux, by default SAM installs in either
/home/SAM or
/opt/SAM, depending on whether you are running Linux as administrator. The installation folder for each version is
.../SAM/[version number], for example
/home/SAM/2020.2.29.
Changing files in the SAM installation folders may cause SAM to stop working or change the results of simulations.
The contents of the SAM installation folder are:
libraries contains CSV files with parameter data for SAM's equipment libraries for PV modules, inverters, wind turbines, and CSP system components.
runtime contains various files that SAM uses to display information in the user interface including LK scripts for macros and Excel files for the cash flow Send-to-Excel feature.
solar_resource and
wind_resource contain sample weather data files for the solar and wind performance models.
The remaining folders (
x64,
macOS, etc.) contain executable and dynamic library files, including the
sdktool executable for the
SAM Software Development Kit
.
