I am encountering the following error:

"Retrieving data at lattitude = 39.74 and longitude = -104.99
Downloading data for 60m hub height.
Failed to read downloaded weather file C:\Users\smadala/SAM Downloaded Weather Files/lat39.74_lon-104.99__2013."

Any guidance on how to proceed is much appreciated. Thank you!

Hello,

The NREL WIND Toolkit web service has been down, but it should be working now. Please try again and let us know if you continue to have trouble.

Best regards,
Paul.

I'm getting same thing now.

"Retrieving data at lattitude = 40.00 and longitude = -73.00
Downloading data for 100 hub height.
Failed to read downloaded weather file C:\Users\Glarange/SAM Downloaded Weather Files/lat40.00_lon-73.00__2013. Try the download again in case there was a problem connecting to the database."

General question: Is the Python API more robust? I could try using that. Whatever works best, please LMK.

Thanks
Gui

Hi all,

The best we can suggest for now is to keep trying the download until it works. The problem is with the WIND Toolkit API, so working through a different path will not fix it.

Best regards,
Paul.

Wind resource data downloads are not working in SAM 2022.11.21 r1. We will fix that for the next update. In the meantime, use the attached LK script as a workaround:
  1. Download the attached wtk-download.lk script.
  2. Start SAM and create or open a wind case.
  3. On the File menu, click Open script and open the wtk-download.lk script.
  4. In the script, replace the values in Lines 19-22 for the year, timestep, longitude, and latitude variables with values for the file you want to download.
  5. Click Run at the top of the script editor.
The script downloads a weather file from the WIND Toolkit API wtk-download endpoint and puts it in your SAM Downloaded Weather Files Folder, which is a folder SAM creates in your user folder. To use the file, go to the Wind Resource page, check the box under Use a wind resource file stored on your computer, and click Browse to find the file.Best regards,Paul.
