Umodel output manipulation in SAMUL was created by uricohn
Hi Paul

When using a thermalsolar tech. either PT physical model or MS Tower.

I have a TES simulation (using matlab) and I would like to test the effect of incorporating it to a SAM model

if I use the "system.hourly.Q_abs_total" vector as an input to my simulation and change the vector "system.hourly.Q_to_TES" according to my TES simulator results.

Will I be able to run the SAM case using using the revised TES and affect "system.hourly.Q_to_pb" so I will use SAM power block and financial models and analyze the impact of my TES solution?

Thank you

Uri

Hi Uri,

SamUL allows you to set the value of input variables, configure and run simulations, and to write values of output variables to files. It does not allow you to set the value of intermediate variables like system.hourly.Q_to_TES during simulations.

With SAM's simulator options, you can use your own TRNSYS components in SAM. That option will not work with a MATLAB model.

Best regards,
Paul.

Hi Paul

So is there an option to use just the PB and economic model of SAM by feeding thermal power and temperature? (generic solar system perhaps will be more suited to my needs?)

Hi Uri,

No, there is not an option to use SAM's power block model with thermal energy input data from another model, unless you develop custom solar field and thermal storage models in TRNSYS.

The CSP generic solar system model allows you to specify the solar field as a table of optical efficiency values for a range of solar elevation and azimuth angles with a set of sizing and loss parameters. The generic solar system model uses a version of the empirical trough model's power block model and the thermal energy storage model.

The generic system model allows you to use an electric generation profile (8760 or more time steps per year) to represent the system's performance. That makes it possible to use either measured performance data or data from another model as input to one of SAM's financial models.

Best regards,
Paul.
