Calculation error and question was created by bobmillsap
Hi,

Hi, I noticed that in the Single Owner PPA model there is a reference name error (carefully read the named reference in Cell P:214 on the Cash Flow Tab, it's easily fixed).

Separately, the depreciation allocation is pulled from cell B:80. Is this correct? It doesn't seem like capital reserves should be counted as depreciable assets. I've changed the link to cell B:67, but please let me know if I'm on the wrong track.

thanks so much, Robert

Dear Robert,
Thank you for this feedback. Are you working with an Excel workbook that you downloaded from the Financial Models Documentation  page of the SAM website, or from a workbook that you generated from SAM by clicking the "Send to Excel with equations" button on the Cash Flow tab?
Best regards,

Paul.

Dear Robert,
SAM's PPA models include financing costs in the depreciation basis. The financing costs include the reserve accounts, so the model is working as it was designed. We provided the "send to Excel with equations" capability to make it possible to modify the model to suit your own purposes.
If you want to use your modified workbook in place of the default one, you can replace the single_owner.xlsx file in the C:/SAM/2016.3.14/runtime/spreadsheets folder with your modified file (just make sure to use the same name so SAM can find it). If you do that, I would recommend saving a copy of the original file so you can go back to it if something goes wrong.
Best regards,

Paul.

Paul,

Sounds like good advice. Does SAM actually use this file to make calculations, or is the file just an Excel expression of SAM programming?

thanks, Robert

Hi Robert,

SAM uses internal calculations (that we program in C++) to generate the cash flow table in the user interface. The workbook is completely separate. We designed it to replicate the internal calculations as a way for you to see what SAM is doing.

If you modify the workbook in the /spreadsheets folder, it will not affect the results in the SAM user interface.

Best regards,
Paul.
