Power generated higher than nameplate capacity was created by taina
Hi Paul,
I am making some simulations using all SAM's default values, and the wind resource from Northwestern TX - flat lands (NREL AWS Truepower representative file).
I have noticed that sometimes, the power generated by system (kW) is higher than the system nameplate capacity (kW), and I wonder if the power shouldn't be always smaller or equal than the nameplate capacity.
Many thanks!
Taina

Dear Taina,
The nameplate capacity is just that, a name, or rated capacity. The actual output of the turbine depends on the power curve, which may exceed the nameplate capacity under some conditions.
However, the wind turbine output should not exceed its nameplate capacity by very much.
Best regards,
Paul.
