Wind data: grib2 to SRW was created by taina
Hello everyone,

I am trying to use global NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis wind data (www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/data/gridded/data.ncep.reanalysis.pressure.html) in SAM.

I am planning to read the grib2 file using wgrib 2 and rNOMADS. Then I will have to calculate the wind speed and direction using the NCEP vectors.

After that, I will write a SRW file to open in SAM.

Has anybody already done that? Am I in the right way?

Many thanks!

I have done something similar using NASA MERRA data to create srw files for SAM (and solar, smw, too). I'm using the netCDF format files from NASA as input. I'm using Python for my processing.

Kind regards

Angus
