No savings with net metering off was created by Scotty Solutions
In modeling a system, when I turn off net metering there are zero savings.

I'm using flat rate, of $0.30 buy and 0 sell.

Production is just slightly less than the load.

But it says no savings.

Electricity costs are the same with and without the system.

SAM version 2015.6.30

I notice the same issue. With net metering turned off, electricity cost with and without the PV system is the same and savings with system is zero. Bad.

Cockpit error. This makes sense to me now. Click the help button and read about net metering. With net metering enabled, excess energy credits are carried into the next month. With net metering turned off, excess energy is sold back to the power company each month at the Flat sell rate. So net metering on or off is a wash if the buy and sell rates are the same.

Thanks for the reply DaveDE:

The system I am trying to model cannot export anything to the grid. All savings would be purely avoided purchases from the utility.

There would be no excess energy or credits. I suppose the sell rate would be = to the buy rate where demand

Hi Scotty,
The current version of SAM only models two electricity metering scenarios as described in this diagram:

The next version, which we plan to release in late January 2016, offers more metering options, including one that should meet your requirements.
Would you mind telling us the specific rate structure you are modeling? Is it for an American electricity service area?
Best regards,

Paul.
