SAM 2015.6.30. revision 4 was created by arkaitz
Dear Paul,
We are working with SAM vs 2015.6.30. The case of study is a CSP plant with TES using the physical model.
We have had some problems after installing the new update, revision 4 [2015-10-13].
First of all, we cannot open files configured with previous revision (SAM 2015.6.30. revision 3).
It appears an advice that SAM could not read Solar_resource library (when we introduce a new TMY in TMY3 format).
Is it possible to reinstall revision 3 once revision 4 is running? It is not the solution but we need to get some updated results for an ongoing project.
Also, we notice that the cold side HX approach temp is now an input, and storage volume, tank diameter, estimated heat loss and thermal storage exegetic efficiency have different values even if we are using the same data as in the previous revision. There is a problem with final results; production is 50% less with the new version.
The output “Power generated by system” has now dissapeared.
Find attached summary results (3 files) from the previous and latest revisions.
Can you please provide some feedback.
Thanks in advance and regards,
Arkaitz

Dear Arkaitz,
Here is a link to the installation file for SAM 2015.6.30 r3 (Windows). Please install it in a different folder than your other versions of SAM so that you can be sure what version you are using. Also, please ignore the message about updating it to r4 when you start the software. (You can install more than one version of SAM on your computer and run them at the same time -- they will not interfere with each other.)
SAM 2015.6.30 r3 for Windows
The only difference between r3 and r4 should be that r4 displays correctly on high definition displays (in r3, text overlaps on high-definition displays), so I am surprised that you are seeing differences in results between the two versions. I will investigate further to see why you are seeing differences in your results and let you know what I find.
When you use custom weather files in SAM, you should store them in a folder outside of the SAM installation folder. Instead of storing them in the solar_resource folder, create a separate folder (perhaps in your Documents folder), and then click Folder settings in SAM on the Location and Resource input page so that SAM can find it. That will ensure that when you install new versions you can still access your custom weather files.
Best regards,
Paul.

Hello again,
If you are still having trouble with your file, please email me a copy of your .sam file and weather file and I will try to help.
Note that when you first open your file, you will need to run a simulation to see the hourly results, including the "Power generated by system" variable. That is because when you close a file, SAM saves annual and monthly data but not hourly (or subhourly) data. This is so that your .sam files will not be too large.
Best regards,
Paul.
