Unknown parameter - Beam self-shading dc loss factor was created by ankur7
Hi,
In SAM PV Model Technical Reference, in section 8.6 (Beam Self-shading DC Loss Factor), the calculation for Fdc2 mentions a parameter 'md' but it is not mentioned what this 'md' refers to. Any help on this will be great.
Thanks so much!
Regards,
Ankur

Dear Ankur,
The variable md should be d, and is the number of bypass diodes in the photovoltaic module. SAM assumes that d = 3, so that each module in the array consists of three submodules connected in series, with each submodule protected by one bypass diode.
I've updated the Errata Sheet for the PV reference manual on the Performance Documentation Page to describe this and a couple of other errors in the manual.
Best regards,
Paul.
