How can I model shading for PV?

One idea for an easy way to integrate with Sketchup would be to import the 3DS file from sketchup and just treat every object in the file as something that casts a shade. Then you could draw the active surfaces directly in SAM. This wouldn't be perfect, but it would be a good step in the right direction.

This guy might be a good person to reach out to, as he is clearly already well on his way to generating shading analysis data in Sketchup.

Dear Paul;
I think Rick's idea and recommendation is very good.
I am also a SketchUp Make 2017 user (personal use).
I sometimes need 3D on this part of my life.
If the SAM developers and the SketchUp developers integrate these software packages effectively and productively for many activities, tasks and works, I think, most of the users like I do, will love alot these tools.
They can help me alot for my CSP, PV and CPV research studies.
