Net metering/tiered energy rates was created by patngesh
Dear Paul,

Please explain why when I have values for both flat buy rate and tiered energy rates (buy);net metering is enabled, the payback period is significantly lower as compared to when I only have values for tiered energy rates (buy) and the flat buy rate is zero.

I would expect when using the tiered rates, the flat rate would be disabled.

Regards,
Patricia

Dear Patricia,

SAM adds the flat energy rate to the tiered energy rates, so that the total rate in any given period is the sum of the two. It does not disable tiered time-of-use rates when you specify flat rates.

This is potentially useful for rate structures without net metering but with tiered or time-of-use rates where you want to specify complex buy rates but one sell rate that applies to all TOU periods and rates (or vice-versa).

Best regards,
Paul.
