Linux Version of SAM Working was created by ozsolarwind
I'm happy to report the (New) Linux version of SAM is working successfully on my Ubuntu 15.04 system.
I had a few problems trying to install/run it elsewhere than /home//SAM/ so I'll stick with that location.
I do encounter some error messages but no show stoppers with my limited testing.
"(sam.bin:17733): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_set_size_request: assertion 'width >= -1' failed" is the most common one. I haven't done any analysis yet to see if it's an enviroment issue
Kind regards
AnGus

AnGus,
Thank you for trying out the Linux version. To install to other locations than /home, you may need root privileges. If you continue to have problems installing to another location, please send any additional information about the errors you see.
The error messages about gtk_widget_set_size_request assertions are acceptable and are not indicative of a problem with SAM at this point. To the best of our knowledge these messages may be safely ignored.
Best,
Aron

The problem is having a space in the folder name, for example '..../Tech Stuff'. I've installed it in a folder with no spaces close to where I want it "located" in my hierarchy so that's near enough for me. Please consider the issue closed. If you want to follow up for the future I've included an edited snapshot of the interaction below.
Kind regards
AnGus
Installer prompt:
Enter installation folder [enter for default: /home/userid/SAM/2015.6.30]
My response:
/home/userid/where_i_want_it/Tech\ Stuff/SAM/2015-06-30
Installer response:
No write permissions to /home/userid/where_i_want_it/Tech Stuff/SAM/2015-06-30. please run as root
./sam-linux-2015-6-30.run: 36: exit: Illegal number: -1

If you run SAM on Ubuntu and don't see the SAM Start and New buttons or case tabs and the Results page does not display, try changing the Ubuntu theme to high contrast.
Thanks,
Paul.

Thanks. The high contrast worked for me. The terminal is throwing lots of errors but the program still runs!
