SAM 2020.11.29 requires Windows 10/8 (64-bit).

Windows Installation Instructions

• Double click the .exe installation file and follow the instructions in the installation wizard. By default SAM will install in the c:/SAM/2020.11.29 folder.

Installation troubleshooting:

NREL does not have a Microsoft code signing certificate for SAM, so when you install the software on a Windows computer, you will likely see messages warning you about the installation:

• If Windows displays Do you want to allow this app from an unkown publisher to make changes to your device, click Yes to install SAM.
• If Windows display Windows protected your PC, click More info and then Run anyway to install SAM.

If, when you start SAM after installing it, you see a VCRuntime140_1.dll missing message, run the VC_redist.x64.exe program that comes with your SAM installation. You can find it in the following folder: C:\SAM\2020.11.29\runtime\bin.

SAM 2020.11.29 requires OS X 10.9 or later.

Mac Installation Instructions

• Double-click the disk image (.dmg file) to open it, and drag the SAM icon to your applications folder. This adds the SAM.app application to your Applications folder.

NREL does not have an Apple code signing certificate for SAM. If you see a message about verifying SAM that prevents you from starting SAM:

1. Open a Finder window, go to the Applications folder, and open the SAM disk image.
2. Control-click the SAM app icon.
3. Click Open, and follow the prompts to open the application from an unknown developer and save SAM as an exception to your security settings.

For some older versions of OS X, a security feature called Gatekeeper may prevent you from starting SAM. For more on bypassing Gatekeeper, see this CNET article.

If SAM does not display correctly in macOS Dark Mode, close SAM, switch macOS to Light Mode, and then restart SAM.

In Linux, the .run file is a self-extracting archive. By default it installs in /home/SAM/ or /opt/SAM/.

Linux Installation Instructions

1. After the download finishes, open a terminal window and go to the Download folder:
   cd <path/to/Downloads>
2. Open a terminal window and add execute permissions to the file:
   chmod u+x ./sam-linux-2020-11-29-r2.run
3. Run the installer:
   ./sam-linux-2020-11-29-r2.run
4. When the installer finishes, to run SAM:
   cd <path/to/SAM/2020.11.29>
