Windows Installation Instructions

  • Double click the .exe installation file and follow the instructions in the installation wizard. By default SAM will install in the c:/SAM/2020.2.29 folder.

If SAM 2020.2.29 is already installed on your computer, install SAM 2020.2.29 r1 to replace your installation with the updated version,

Note. If Windows displays the Windows protected your PC message, click More info and then Run anyway to install SAM.

SAM requires OS X 10.9 or later.

Mac Installation Instructions

  • Double-click the disk image (.dmg file) to open it, and drag the SAM icon to your applications folder. This adds the SAM.app application to your Applications folder.
  • If you see a message about verifying SAM that prevents you from starting SAM:
    1. Open a Finder window, go to the Applications folder, and open the SAM disk image.
    2. Control-click the SAM app icon, click Open, and follow the prompts to open the application from an unknown developer and save SAM as an exception to your security settings. For some older versions of OS X, a security feature called Gatekeeper may prevent you from starting SAM. For more on bypassing Gatekeeper, see this CNET article.
Note: SAM will not display correctly in macOS Dark Mode. Please switch to Light Mode before starting SAM.

Stochastic Simulations

SAM's Stochastic simulations feature requires gfortran libraries. If these libraries are not installed on your Mac, you can install them from http://hpc.sourceforge.net/index.php.

In Linux, the .run file is a self-extracting archive. By default it installs in /home/SAM/ or /opt/SAM/.

Linux Installation Instructions

  1. After the download finishes, open a terminal window and go to the Download folder:
    cd <path/to/Downloads>
  2. Open a terminal window and add execute permissions to the file:
    chmod u+x ./sam-linux-2020-2-29-r1.run
  3. Run the installer:
    ./sam-linux-2020-2-29-r1.run
  4. When the installer finishes, to run SAM:
    cd <path/to/SAM/2020.2.29>
    ./SAM
