CSP steam generation

Greetings,

I'm a chemical engineering student and for my final project in university I'm studying applications of CSP technologies for steam generation. I just started using SAM and I couldn't find out how to extract that kind of information. Is it possible to obtain data for steam generation or even heat output for CSP technologies?

Thank you

Paul Gilman

Dear Tulio,

SAM has two process heat models that you can use for your analysis. They are "Process heat parabolic trough," and "Process heat linear direct steam." To use them, just choose the model when you create a file or case from the list of performance models. You may need to scroll to the bottom of the list to see those options.

Best regards
Paul.

Thanks Paul!

The "Process heat parabolic trough" is just what I needed!

I have another question thou, if you don't mind. I'm having trouble finding out the output temperature that would be available for process use, can you help me where to find it?

Paul Gilman

For the IPH Trough model, the temperature available for process use is "Heat sink HTF inlet temp". Note that for a system with storage, the field outlet HTF is often mixed with HTF from the hot tank before entering the heat sink.

For IPH Linear (steam), it is "Field timestep-averaged outlet temperature" because the model does not include storage.

Best regards,
Paul.
