Thermal load? was created by h.johnson
Hello!

I'm starting a project to analyze different methods of solar water/HTF heating to power an Organic Rankine Cycle for power generation with TES. After experimenting with some models already (CSP, IPH, and solar water heating), I was wondering what would be the best method to simulate variable electrical and thermal load requirements or if this would not be possible?

Thanks

Dear hojo,

SAM's models are for systems that either generate electricity or provide heat for thermal applications, but not a combination of the two.

The Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) models are for power generation projects where all of the electricity generated by the system is delivered to the grid. Similarly, the Industrial Process Heat (IPH) models assume that the heat from the system is delivered to the process as it is available. For systems with Thermal Energy Storage (TES), you can adjust the dispatch parameters to control when energy is dispatched from TES.

The models do not dispatch power or heat to meet a load requirement. Instead, they deliver the power or heat as it is available from the system.

Best regards,
Paul.
