PV System Outputs

In the past, you could run the excel sheets and it would show both a DC and an AC value for kWh. I don’t see the value for AC, unless it’s the value in the “Annual Data,” “Energy kWh?”

In the latest versions of SAM (current version is SAM 2013.1.15), we've renamed the some of the system output variables in an effort to make them consistent across the different performance models. (The photovoltaic models are the only ones that report DC and AC electrical output values.)

In general, the following results variables represent AC electricity values for the photovoltaic models:

  • Annual Energy: In the Metrics table, under Metrics in tables, and as Single Value in graphs.
  • Energy: Under Annual Data in tables, in the cash flow table, and as All Years values in graphs.
  • Monthly Energy Delivered: Under Monthly Data in tables, and as Monthly values in graphs.
  • Net ac output (kWh): Under Monthly Data in tables, and as Monthly values in graphs.
  • Gross ac output (kWh): Under Single Values, Monthly Data, and Hourly Data in tables, and as Monthly and Single Value values in graphs.

Note the following:

Annual Energy = Net AC Output with performance adjustments [year 1 data]
Net AC Output = Gross AC Output * AC Derate Factor [year 1, monthly data, and hourly data]
Monthly Energy Delivered = Net AC Output with performance adjustments [monthly data]

In some cases, SAM reports an "energy" value and an "energy delivered" values. In those cases:

Energy Delivered = Energy with performance adjustments

"With performance adjustments" in my descriptions above means that the value accounts for the Percent of Annual Output and Hourly Factors that you specify on the Performance Adjustment page.

Best regards,
Paul.
