Electric Load Data Input Clarification

I have an an extract from a utility for one year kWh energy in 15-minute time increments. The utility has a time of use and weekday/weekend rate schedule. I understand that:

The first data point is considered January 1 but for weekday/weekend, SAM assumes the first data point is considered a Monday. Correct?

SAM seems to expect data in kW, so I multiplied my 15-minute kWh data by four to approximate kW power before I loaded it. Monthly kWh and kW both looked fine on the "Input Time Series Load Data" screen, but when I did a "Create Report" the "Annual Total Demand" (kWh) was 4 times what the actual demand was in the load file. Peak power was fine.

What am I doing wrong? Is there an easier way to do it?

Hello,

Would you mind emailing me the file with that load data so I can investigate?

Best regards,
Paul.

Sure. What is your email?

Sorry -- the term "emailing me" in my reply above should be a link to email me. My email address is sam dot support at nrel dot gov.

Best regards,
Paul.

Hello,

There is a bug in the PV PDF report template for residential or commercial systems when you use sub-hourly load data. In your case, your file used 15-minute load data, and the report shows a total annual load value four times the correct value.

Here is a link to download a template that corrects the problem:

pv.samreport (82.5 KB)

Replace the template file in your SAM installation with this new template. In Windows, the file is in C:/SAM/2016.3.14/runtime/report. To find the file on a Mac, please see this description of how to display the package contents.)

Thank you for pointing out this problem.

Best regards,
Paul.
